The Tissue Viability Service aims to:

  • Provide advice and support to HCPs on the management of patients with, or 'at risk' of, developing chronic wounds such as pressure ulcers

  • Advise on patients who have developed leg ulcers and other types of wounds that are difficult to heal

  • Advise on appropriate use of advanced wound care technologies

  • Reduce and prevent secondary-care admissions by early intervention and management of infections


Eligibility criteria

Inclusions

Patients, 18 years and over, who live in Camden may be referred if:

  • They have a wound that shows no signs of healing, is slow to heal or deteriorating
  • All wounds that have not responded to appropriate treatment after 4 weeks, where the expected/planned outcome is healing.
  • Management for fungating wounds
  • All grade 3 pressure ulcers and above
  • When compression bandaging or hosiery cannot be tolerated by the patient
  • When other advanced wound therapies e.g. topical negative pressure wound therapy, larvae
  • Advice regarding pressure-relieving equipment and management to prevent pressure ulcer development
