Patients with established epilepsy should be referred through e-Referral.

First-seizure referrals should be sent directly to the trust's first-seizure clinics (as NICE guidelines suggest rapid review and assessment).

The consultants would be happy to discuss any referrals and usually state the eligibility criteria below.

Eligibility criteria

Inclusions

Adult patients with epilepsy or suspected epilepsy, who have had:

  • first seizure within 3 months
  • no active or significant drug or alcohol dependency
  • no previous neurological review regarding first seizure
  • normal 12-lead ECG

How to Refer EMIS Forms

Routine referrals via CCAS through e-Referral.

Urgent (non-2ww) via e-Referrals direct to the hospital.

Please mark the referral with 'first-seizure' to ensure it goes to the correct service.
