Adult Safeguarding and Prevent & Facial Pain Event

Adult Safeguarding and Prevent Training

Part 1 – Adult Safeguarding Training Level 3

Safeguarding is everyone’s business, and the Care Act 2014 places statutory duties on health, local authority and police partners to deliver the safeguarding adults agenda.

The national competency framework for safeguarding adults identifies the skills and competency requirements for front line clinicians, and the session will be based on the core competencies defined at Level 3. Staff attending this session must have completed safeguarding adults’ e-learning or face to face equivalent to levels 1 and 2.

At level 3 training is for all staff who regularly contribute to supporting adults at risk of abuse and/or their families / carers. This includes through multiagency safeguarding procedures and assessing, planning, intervening and evaluating the needs of an adult where there are safeguarding concerns.

Part 2 – Prevent

Prevent is a non-enforcement, pre-criminal part of the government’s Counter Terrorist strategy and a safeguarding responsibility for healthcare. Camden CCG is required to ensure all clinical staff, including GP’s, have completed the workshop for raising awareness of Prevent (WRAP), which is monitored by NHS England and the Home Office for compliance.

The aim of the session was increase awareness about Prevent and indicators which may help recognise those people at risk of radicalisation, providing information on referrals and how this supports the safeguarding agenda and statutory duties. The session was delivered through discussion and video clips showing how the Prevent agenda works to support vulnerable people to be diverted from extremism.

Facial Pain

This session provided an overview of the service, conditions and treatment. The session also discussed the role of psychology and physiotherapy for facial pain issues. This session was led by Dr Clare Daniels, Consultant Clinical Psychologist & Facial Pain Clinical Lead at UCLH.
